2019-2020 NOHA Development Weekend

May 24, 2019

SUDBURY, ON – The Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA) is very excited to be hosting the Eight Annual NOHA Development Weekend on May 24 to 26, 2019 at Laurentian University and the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex in Sudbury.

The NOHA Development Weekend, which will see more than 180 participants from across Northern Ontario, is comprised of four events:

  • Ninth Annual NOHA Officials Development Camp

  • Under-15 Camp being hosted by the Ontario Hockey Federation and Ontario Hockey League

  • HTCP Level III Trainers Program

  • Inaugural NOHA Under-14 Program of Excellence Camp.

Over 60 2005-born players will be participating in the inaugural NOHA Under-14 Program of Excellence Camp. The NOHA U-14 Program of Excellence Camp is an introductory program with the purpose of preparing our young hockey players for the challenges they will encounter throughout Hockey Canada’s POE Pathway, concluding with the Under-20 World Junior Hockey Championships. Players will be introduced to Hockey Canada’s Four Pillars of Excellence: Physical Performance, Mental Performance, Technical Performance, and Environment for Success. They will develop their skills on the ice through skills sessions, and off the ice through lectures.

Over 80 2004-born players will be participating in the Under-15 Camp, which is being held  by the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). They will go through off-ice training and seminars on psychology, fitness, and nutrition, along with multiple practices and games.

The Ninth Annual NOHA Officials Development Camp will see 16 Officials from across Northern Ontario learn from some of the top Officiating instructors in the province. Among the facilitators include: NOHA Director of Officials Glen Campbell, OHL Officiating Manager Ken Miller, Nipissing University Men’s Hockey Head Coach Mike McParland, and NOJHL Commissioner Rob Mazzuca. Participants will learn through classroom discussions and on-ice sessions and will also have the opportunity to officiate games throughout the weekend.

Please visit https://www.noha-hockey.com/ for the full schedule. All practices and games are being held at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex; there is no charge to attending any of the ice sessions.
